Abstract

This study was to examine the relationships between the general characteristics of the elder and functional health measures.
The purpose of this study was to acquire reference data for nursing intervention to promote well being of aged.
The subjects of this study were 96 old people of Chinju.
The data was corrected from December 1 to December 12 1998 by questionnaire. The tool used in this study was functional health measures developed by Gibson D. M. in 1985.
This stool was organized into eight mobilities and personal cares. - (!)cutting own toenails (2)walking half a mile mousing public transport (A)going out alone Ogetting around inside at home 66using stairs (2 getting in and out of bed (B)taking a bath or shower.
The general characteristics were consisted of four factor - sex, occupation, income, form of resident. Data analysis was performed by frequency, percentage, and chi-square.
The results of the analysis were as follow;
1) sex;
The statical significance was in seven items of eight ones ; cutting their toenails (x2 =18.08723, p< .001) walking half mile (x2 =9.20069, p< .01) going out alone (x2 = 8.72194, p< .05) getting around inside at home (x2 = 13.42057, p< .01) using stairs(x2 = 11.20870, p< .01) getting in and out of bed (x2 = 22.88832, p< .001) taking bath or shower (x2 = 7.72161, p< .01).
2) occupation;
The statical significance was in one items of eight ones; getting in and out of bed(x2 = 6.29384, p< .05).
3) The form of residence;
There was no statistical significance.
4) Income;
There was no statistical significance.
